My husband has Type 1 diabetes and will need to go on a personal health insurance plan. The ones we found are an outrageous expense. Does anyone know of a good company that supports type 1 diabetics?

You are going to find that almost all companies are going to be expensive because your husband has diabetes. And if you do find one, it may have a waiting period of 6 months to 2 years before they start to cover anything related to his diabetes. If he works and has health insurance there, they should automatically start to cover him. This is a thing that diabetics keep looking for, a good health care coverage that we can afford. They just don’t seem to exist.

It is possible to find individual health insurance for people with some types of diabetes but usually the key requirement that the underwriters at the health insurance company will ask for is:
    1. Controlled by diet and exercise.
    2. No other major pre-existing conditions.
If these 2 requirements are met then you find that even then only a very small amount of individual health insurance companies will accept him onto their plan.
However, one way to get guaranteed issue individual health insurance coverage with all pre-existing conditions including diabetes covered is to apply for a HIPAA health insurance plan.
Either way you will want to shop around and compare options from many different companies. An independent agent will be able to help in this regard. Here is some more information on finding health insurance even with diabetes and also some information on HIPAA health insurance plans:

My Sister has type 1. Via her work supplied her with heath care Insurance. (AXA PPP)
But because of her Type 1, when it came to the crunch and she needed to see someone the company wouldn’t help out because of the Diabetes.
This is the case for most insurance company’s as they won’t “help out” people who have diabetes, as they tend to blame this for any new conditions ie my sisters Epilepsy. They wouldn’t pay for her to see a private specialist.
If you manage to find a insurance company, please let me know.

Carl, this link is useless. Try talking to the insurance companies to get coverage. What they say on their web sites, what they advertise and what they actually will DO for a diabetic are all entirely different. Diabetics are health risks and insurance companies will not insure them unless they pay dearly..even when there is doctors proof that their disease has been under excellent control for years.
