Ask you doctor about a class for diabetics. He or she should be able to refer you to a nutritionist and courses that teach you how and what to eat. Think brown as in rice, pasta, etc.

Slow-acting carbs include whole grain breads and cereals (such as bran, shredded wheat, oatmeal, barley), brown rice, sweet potatoes and whole wheat pasta. Low carbohydrate vegetables include leafy greens, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, mushrooms, zucchini and asparagus. The idiot that told you ‘meat and eggs’ doesn’t know what CARBS are! Portion control and meal timing are also key to maintaining your blood sugar.

    Rice,any color
    Potatoes,any color
    beans,any variety
    oatmeal
I used to use Glucerna shakes at bedtime to keep my BG level through the night. For me, milk was slow-acting, but many diabetics have a differant response to certain foods. You may have to experiment. A healthy balance of fat and protein can help to slow down the digestion of carbs. Peanut butter on whole grain bread works well. Talk to a dietician and join a diabetic web group such as in yahoo groups.

Stay away from potatoes , pasta, bread , flour , peas carrots , rice , sugar and anything else that is white. Good carbs are meat , eggs , cheese , broccoli , cauliflower. Get the South Beach Diet Book or Atkins book both have very good lists of food and the amount of carbs they have in them If I can help email me at tuckernorma@sbcglobal.net

sugestion-eat protein with complex carbs-this slows down absorbtion of carbs. As a rule, whole grain is better than white, sweet potatoes are better than white and fruits should be eaten by themselves (an exception to the protein rule)

The more fat that the food contains the slower it raises blood sugar.
