Is Having To Much Diet Soft Drink Bad For People With Diabetes Type 1?

6 July 2009 257 views 8 Comments

Diet coke is a “free” drink for diabetics (as we like to call carb free foods in my house). Regular diet coke is not a good choice for hot days or for any hydrating purposes. Choose caffeine free diet coke, as regular diet coke negates hydration.
Don’t drink soda all the time. Diet or otherwise - they have a lot of crap in them.

I read on the Internet that there is an ingredient in diet drinks, that is not any good for you. Some people had had very bad effects from it, and it was put down to this ingredient. It has also been linked to M.S.

yes I think it is bad. just having the artificial sweetener in the soda is bad for you. plus you should try to stop drinking a lot of soda. drinking orange juice or other natural juices is better for you. the juices have their own natural sugars in it, so you have to watch the amount you drink. you can talk to a licensed dietitian for some advice.

Well I had type 1 as well. I totally understand your problem . We can’t drink juice because of having to count all those carbs and it’s so fast-acting. So I try to drink milk once or twice a day and only 1 1/2 diet dr. Peppers. SOMETIMES I’ll drink unsweet tea, and I drink juice for lows. I LOVE Apple juice, but can only have it when low. I havne’t been low for a few days and I WANT SOME JUICE SO BAD!! :) I could count it but when I do it without being low it shoots me and makes me low then rebound so it’s just not worth it. Stick with soda.

I don’t think you have to eliminate drinking it altogether but too much of anything is not good for you. Crystal light has 0 carbs and has several delicious flavors. Lipton diet green tea with citrus is really good tasting and also has a lot of antioxidants which is good for you. Have 2 or 3 sodas a day and fill in with some other suggested drinks. Good luck!

Too much is probably not good. There’s nothing in it but flavor, carbonated water with some artificial sweeteners. I drink one every day. I’m diabetic. But everyone will tell you they see stuff on the Internet. Hey, the Internet is really great, but not every thing on it is true. Drinking diet soda as a diabetic is not bad. I asked my doctor and my dietitian. It also counts as water when they tell you to drink a certain amount of water every day. Don’t drink the juices. Not even the “no sugar added” ones. Way too much sugar. Stick with a diet soda here and then.

Some people have bad reactions to aspartame, one of the ingredients in sugar free drinks. Too much of anything, including soft drinks, is not good for anyone. Other than soft drinks, Tropicana makes lemonade, orange drink, and tropical bunch which contain no sugar or carbonation. There are also sugar free flavor pouches you can add to water. Good luck and take care!
