In type I diabetes, the body does not produce insulin at all. So, people suffering from this condition have to inject themselves with insulin on a daily basis to survive.
Most of people who have diabetes type I (about 10% of diabetics) are children and young adults.
In type II diabetes, the body still produces insulin (although in some cases, less insulin) but the body has problems reacting to the insulin and thus do not process food properly, resulting in an elevated blood glucose level, which is not good. Most type II …

Not just in the way it develops, but in the way it’s treated. And it’s not just those two. There is type 1, type 2, gestational … and that’s just diabetes MELLITUS! There’s also a diabetes insipidus that doesn’t have anything to do with blood sugar levels. It drives me crazy for someone to ask a diabetes related question and not specify which type. Maybe I’m taking this too seriously, but when I come here I come because I want to help (and to learn) …

Type 1 diabetes first occurs in childhood or adolescence, and is a result of the immune system attacking the cells in the pancreas that produce insulin. Type 1 diabetics produce no insulin, and are therefore always dependent on insulin injections.
Type 2 diabetes usually happens in adults (although more and more teens and children are getting it). Type 2 diabetics produce a lot of insulin, but their bodies’ cells are resistant to it. Type 2 diabetics can often manage with diet changes and oral medication that increases insulin …

Genetics (specific HLA types, having the AIRE gene mutation, Northern European decent, and other genetic factors we don’t know about).
Having other autoimmune diseases yourself (Rheumatoid arthritis, MS etc.) or in your family.
Having a family history of Type 1 diabetes.
Early exposure to casein (cow’s milk protein) and gluten are *possibly* linked to Type 1, but this has not been proven. Dietary lectins have also been linked to autoimmunity. The problem is that people with autoimmune diseases have a “leaky gut” and let all or any of these foreign proteins in, triggering …

Diabetes mellitus type 2 + Hypertension = Silent killer.
Controlling blood sugar levels are crucial for people with diabetes. But equally important is blood pressure control. High blood pressure and diabetes often occur together and if left untreated can lead to serious consequences.
Obesity may be a common link between the two disorders, but other factors such as insulin resistance and autonomic dysfunction may also be involved. Excess weight with truncal obesity, hypertension, impaired glucose tolerance, insulin resistance, and dyslipidemia are among the components of the metabolic syndrome, which has been associated …

In Type 1, your body doesn’t produce enough or even any insulin to keep the glucose (sugar) in your blood regulated. It can develop any time in a person’s life, although most often it happens in younger people.
In Type 2, your body might make insulin, but your body no longer does what it should with the glucose (sugar) in your blood. It can develop any time in a person’s life, although most often it happens in adults who are overweight and sedentary.
