CDRN has given you an excellent answer, and I commend her. The fundamental lesion associated with diabetes, whether type I or II, involves the very small blood vessels. Diabetes damages the basement membranes of those blood vessels, and allows protein molecules to leak through and into the tissue or spaces outside those blood vessels. This can damage the kidneys, the long nerves, and the large blood vessels that have their metabolic needs met through the blood spuulied to them through the small blood vessels. This mechanism also occurs in small blood vessels in the eyes, and can result in blindness.
Diabetic blood vessel damage also occurs in the coronary aretries, and it is a maxim in medical practice that a diabetic is as likely to have a heart attack as is a non-diabetic who has already had a heart attack.
So diabetes is one of the leading reasons for people to
    – require extracorporeal dialysis (the other most common reason for dialysis being hypertensive renal damage called arteriolonephrosclerosis),
    – need amputations of legs because of inadequate blood flow to the legs,
    – lose feeling in the feet and sometimes in the hands(especially pain and temperature, because these sensations are conducted through unmyelinated nerves, so we advise diabetics to never go anywhere barefoot, even in their own homes,
    – become blind
    – have hypertension (high blood pressure), because hypertension is twice as frequent in diabetics as in non-diabetics.

Type 1 diabetes is when your pancreas no longer makes insulin. Insulin regulates your blood sugar. When you eat your pancreatic cells secrete enough insulin to keep your blood sugar normal. When you have type 1 diabetes you can’t do that and must regulate it with injections of insulin. Overtime it does damage to your circulatory system and organs mostly your kidneys and you end up in kidney failure and on dialysis. Also the veins and arteries the furthest away from your heart are damaged and causes poor circulation and neuropathy in your feet and legs. Eventually leading to amputation………

Type 1 is when your pancreas doesn’t produce enough insulin for your body to use the sugar you consume through eating and you end up with too high glucose levels in your blood.
Essentially, you have to give yourself insulin shots everyday (usually several times a day) to regulate your glucose levels. High glucose cause damage to eyes, kidneys, nerves and elevates your risk for stroke and heart attacks.
Insulin shots can cause your sugar to go too low which can cause you to pass out or go into a coma.
It’s serious business and you must maintain a strict diet and exercise.

Diabetes type 1 is not so bad you just have to eat healthy and drink some tabletes. But if you had that many years you could die from it. I don’t know what it does but be careful.
